Item description
Vintage original 8 x 10 in. US single-weight glossy photograph from the 1930's post-WWI themed drama/romance, THE ROAD BACK, released in 1937 by Universal Pictures and directed by James Whale. This sequel to Lewis Milestone's All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) was based upon the novel, "Der Weg zurück," also by Erich Maria Remarque, in which German soldiers who survived World War I on the Western Front struggle to adjust to civilian life in the months following the Armistice of November 11, 1918.
This photograph was taken by Hollywood photographer Roman Freulich and affixed to the verso is the original paper snipe that describes the image. It is in fine+ condition as shown.
Provenance: The Hearst Herald Examiner newspaper archive.
