Item description

Vintage original 11x14 in. US lobby card from the classic 1950's WWII-themed drama, THE YOUNG LIONS, released in 1958 by 20th Century-Fox and directed by Edward Dmytryk. WW2 drama that follows the lives of three young men, one German and two Americans, during wartime. The cast includes Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift, Dean Martin, Hope Lange, Barbara Rush, May Britt, Maximilian Schell, Dora Doll, and Lee Van Cleef. As indicated in the center of the bottom border, this is lobby card #8 from the set of 8 cards. The image depicts an exterior nighttime scene of Noah Ackerman (Montgomery Clift) in a fight with another soldier as he's out to hit him with a terrific punch while another soldier braces for the impact! It is unrestored in fine+ condition with a small chip and crease on the bottom left corner; light signs of random wear and pinholes on the corners; two small tears on the right border; and light signs of wear on the bottom right corner. Dean Martin was a close friend of Montgomery Clift. Martin was always grateful for the help Clift had given him while filming The Young Lions), Martin's first major dramatic role, and he would accompany him to parties after the rest of Hollywood had disowned him due to his increasing addictions to drugs and alcohol. Clift was immensely proud of his work on the film, hoping that it would finally win the Oscar that had eluded him so far. He was hugely disappointed when all the critics seemed to concentrate mostly on his changed post-car crash appearance and how thin and gaunt he seemed. (At this stage in his life, Clift was heavily drug and alcohol dependent.)
