HO scale Civil War Era Western & Atlantic and similar items

This being the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War (known to some as "The Late Unpleasantness"), it is only fitting that T. dispose of the rolling stock that he acquired during the Civil War Centennial. In 1962 he was a newly graduated history major, a newly commissioned infantry 2nd lieutenant in the Regular Army, and naturally interested in military history. And the cars and locomotives looked really cool. They still do. If you want to start a civil war layout or add to one you have already started, this site is a good source for basic rolling stock, some track which needs cleaning, and two power packs which may or may not work. We have a locomotive and tender and about a dozen civil war era cars, all different and all in good condition as may be seen in the photographs. Most are in the origininal boxes, a few are in kit form, and one is missing a set of trucks. The this particular car is a Mantua 1860 Coach Car Western Atlantic. The box says Mantua. The car says Tyco, so T. must have built it instead of studying for exams. It looks like he did a good job. The Western Atlantic, founded in 1836 by the State of Georgia, pre-dated and perhaps was something of a namesake for its terminal city, Atlanta. It was a small railroad (138 miles) beginning in Chatanooga, TN. It appears in all the civil war HO train sets, however, because it was the road of the "Great Locomotive Chase" featuring two famous locomotives -- the General (captured by Union raiders) which was chased by the Texas (operated by a very angry and determined W A RR conductor). A single car will be shipped USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Medium Box -- $11.35 and will be insured -- $1.85 for a total of $13.20. If a buyer buys more than one car at a time, we will attempt to pack the cars in such a way as to save the buyer money on shipping and insurance. After securely packing the items, we will determine the most economical method at Box Stop and notify the buyer. If the buyer finds the cost acceptable, the transaction will be completed and the items shipped.
