Brand new factory sealed vhs tape. Unusual sci-fi thriller, borrowing touches of the buddy-cop crime flicks to spin its refreshing concept. In the immediate future, a shipload of humanoid aliens, labeled "newcomers", crashland on Earth and are assimilated into working-class society, evoking a racist reaction among Earthlings. When a gang of aliens begins a wave of crime, cop James Caan volunteers to team with an alien officer to track the killers. What they uncover, while learning about each other's culture, makes for interesting twists while the drug plot unfolds. The unusual traits of the aliens (they get drunk on sour milk, and have peculiar body odors) makes them believable. Caan walks a fine line between tough-guy hardness and his soft spot for his alien buddy. Mandy Patinkin is memorable as Sykes the alien cop. Produced by Gale Ann Hurd ('Terminator', 'Aliens') and re-writes at the last minute by an uncredited James Cameron. Became the basis for a TV series and movies.
