the artist:
American artist and educator Elinor Janis was born on December 8, 1934 in New York City as the daughter of Edward and Lea Raiden. The family later moved to Los Angeles where Elinor received a Bachelor's degree from UCLA, the University of California at Los Angeles. She remained in the area most of her life, combining a love of art with a commitment to education, which often led to a blend of the two.

Instructor elementary schools, 1957—1966, Woman's Workshop, Granada Hills, California, 1971—1973. Painting instructor Instituto Allende, 1974, 1976—1977, Santa Monica Parks and Recreation, California, 1977. Instructor Los Angeles City Schools, 1978—1986.
