HIGHLIGHTS:
In preparing July's issue of Boys' Life our thoughts turned once again to Alice in Wonderland. For it was
Lewis Carroll's young heroine who wondered, "What is the use of a book without pictures or
conversation?" Alice -- or any reader like her -- could have been thinking of the well-illustrated fact and
fiction in the following pages. If you start with the articles, there's Ken W. Purdy's The Wonderful Chain-
Gang Car, a picture-and-word look at a rare antique beauty of the road... Another on-the-road topic is
Fred Katz's Bikes Are Better than Ever. It's the last word on bicycles, with photos and facts a-plenty
about the happiest, healthiest way to go bywheel . . . And this month also marks the beginning of a new
series: What a Question! The first one -- sure to hit home with just about everyone -- is Are You a
Coward? That demanding question is asked and answered by a real authority on the sub- ject: the great
former heavyweight champion, Jack Dempsey, as told to Frank Litsky. . n A surfer's nightmare is Dark
Danger, author Oren Arnold's tale of teen-agers against the sea ... Anotherfictional treat is Jean
Craighead George's The Moon ofthe Piglets. If you haven't yet read her marvelous "Moon" books, you're in
for a readers delight as she takes you on the trail of a pack of peccaries fighting for survival on the
desert. Now, let's meet:
FRANK LITSKY: For the past ten years Frank has been an editor and writer on the sports staff of The New
York Times. He's poured out millions of words on most of the games people play, and traveled thousands
of miles to cover the big national and international events. Somehow, he also manages to read hundreds
of books, write some of his own, and contribute articles to magazines and reference books. It takes some doing -- and Frank loves to do it!
