Item description
Antique single full-page halftone print titled "The Trio", by American artist Herbert Denman from the original folio publication by D. Appleton and Co. of the 1893-94 World's Fair in Chicago -- Limited Edition of 1,000 copies, "The Art of the World, Illustrated in Printings, Statuary, and Architecture of the World's Columbian Exposition" featuring scenes of the fair and commissioned works of art. A portrait of the artist and descriptive text of this artwork is printed on the reverse side. Publisher D. Appleton states the selection of prints within the folio "presents the highest achievement of modern art, reproduced by unequaled processes." The full page measures approximately 12.5 x 16.5. The desired framing area will be smaller. Shipped very loosely rolled to safeguard print and prohibit creasing. Please Note: Our second image depicts the limited edition folio cover from which this print originated. Only the print is being offered for sale. The folio cover is shown for reference purposes only. Condition: Print is in excellent condition, with folio text on reverse side. There are no pin holes or tape marks anywhere on this antique print. Folio Text: Herbert Denman was a figure-painter. Born to a wealthy family, Denman was a pupil of Art Students League of New York, and Carolus Duran, Paris; honorable mention, Paris Salon, 1886, and Paris Exposition, 1889; member Society of American Artists 1887. The folio text states, "In Mr. Denman's picture, 'The Trio,' the group of musicians stands out against the background. The girl who has the 'cello proves by her graceful pose that even this uncommon instrument for a woman may be handled with at least ease; while the harp player makes one wish that there were more harps to be seen in our modern drawing rooms."
