Item description
Vintage original 12 x 18 in. US pressbook for the 1930's comedy MEET THE WIFE, released in 1931 by the Columbia Pictures and directed by Clarence Leslie Pearce. A hero-worshipping wife (Laura La Plante) who, expecting to entertain a prominent author, is confronted by a former husband (Lew Cody) she has believed dead.
This vintage original pressbook consists of 10 pages. The front cover features 2-color artwork of Laura La Plante and Lew Cody as they cling to each other with another shot of Cody at the top (which is actually a reproduction of the film's window card as noted along the right border). The design is very clever, as this image is actually on a large billboard as various people along the bottom look at it. The interior front cover features 2-color images of the film's complete a1x14 lobby card set, the insert poster and both styles of half-sheets (or 22x28 posters), which is a great reference for movie memorabilia collectors, dealers and historians. Pages 3 and 4 (double-sided) has been torn out and is missing. Page 5 depicts various ads that exhibitors could use to advertise the film; pages 6 and 7 feature "Exploitation Stunts That Have Been Tried and Proved Golden"; page 8 lists "a plot that tickles you pink"; page 9 notes that this film boasts "dialogue that spits sparks!"; and the back cover features various articles and biographies of cast members Laura La Plante, Lew Cody, Joan Marsh, William Janney,Harry Myers, Claud Allister and director Leslie Pearce.
It is missing one double-sided page (3 and 4) and otherwise is in overall fine condition with a horizontal crease through the center which affects every page. At one time the front and/or back covers must have separated from the rest of the pressbook and a previously owner has put two staples along the spine. None of the pages have any tears, stains or writing. As this pressbook has been folded once, it will be shipped folded in a USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope with adequate sturdy cardboard to protect it from damage during transit.
