HILL.This is by far his greatest masterpiece earning thim the legendary nickname of "Empire Builder." It was completed on Jan. 6, 1893 at Scenic, Washington. It was the only privately funded and successfully built, transcontinental railroad in the United States history. Today, AMTRAK's Empire Builder uses the line, running mostly on ex-GN trackage.
