The SARIMANOK is one of the greatest mythical symbols of Philippine Folk Culture. It is said to reprseent power, wealth, honor and prestige.
In the great Maranao epic, DARANGAN, the SARIMANOK is said to be the messenger of Lake Lanao's royalty.
Today, it could be the most appropriate symbol of the aspirations of the Filipino nation in the 90's.
In this September 1990 Vol. 1 No. 3 issue, the GONG is featured on cover. The GONG is typical of Southeast Asian instruments that found their way to the Phillippine archipelago long before FERDINAND MARCOS rediscovered the islands for KING PHILIP II of Spain.
SARIMANOK is the International Magazine of Eastern Telecommunications Phils, Inc., published quarterly.
Publisher Eduardo M. Villanueva, Jose P. Roxas as Chairman of the Editorial Board.
Featured in this issue is LARRY ALCALA, the extremely popular and well-loved dean of Philippine cartonist and a centerfold of "A SLICE OF PHILIPPINE TELECOMMUNICATIONS. Larry Alcaola runs gags for his weekly "SLICE OF LIFE" cartoon series.
