Product description: Calico - Colorful in name - colorful in name - colorful in history - and colorful in its mountainous locale is justly famous for its distinction of being the most valuable and important silver ore discovery ever recorded in all of Southern California's history. Walter Knott's objective is the preservation of the remaining ruins from further deterioration and, to faithfully bring back this boisterous mining camp as it was in the early 1880's. In the same spirit of authentic recreation the rebuilding of Calico is in progress. After a thorough job of research this monumental task is now under way. The entire project because of its nature and scope will be a slow one and is contemplated to extend over a period of years. Thus many of the joys and sorrows - the comedies and tragedies that actually befell these bold, hardy, and kindly people will be reenacted. Joe's Saloon doors will swing again, the News Office once more setting type for the Calico Print, the agent in Wells Fargo will again explain why the coach is late, and perhaps even the shepherd dog Old Dorsey , Calico's most famous four-legged citizen, will again deliver the mail, safely packed within two leather pouches on his back.
