About The Record:
Windows Open, is a 1968 studio album by flautist Herbie Mann, released on Atlantic Records and recorded in New York City with producers Arif Mardin and Joel Dorn. Featuring Roy Ayers on vibraphone, Sonny Sharrock on guitar, Miroslav Vitous on bass, and Bruno Carr on drums, it includes tracks like There Is a Mountain and Footprints, blending soul-jazz, modal, and pop influences. The album captures Mann?s working quintet tackling contemporary jazz and pop covers with spirited improvisation, earning a four-star rating from AllMusic for its excellent ensemble playing. Engineered by Adrian Barber, its blue/green label vinyl pressings, especially from Presswell and Terre Haute plants, are valued by collectors. Though not Mann?s most essential work, Windows Opened showcases his versatility and the era?s vibrant jazz fusion trends.
