Item description
C. BOOTH FARCUS LARGE SIGNED ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR OLDEST PHILADELPHIA ALLEY PAINTING
Rare, signed watercolor on paper, framed in matte circa 1994. Painted by C. Booth Farcus, a magnificent watercolorist of the 20th century in the United States. The historical scene depicts the oldest alley in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where the descendants of the late Benjamin Franklin still reside.
Significant history and provenance emanate from this piece. The artist's note on the back of the watercolor reads: In 1760 Benjamin Franklin of Philadelphia donated cobblestones and stone culverts and paid for the design and labor required to convert this alley into a sanitary passageway. It is said that some of Franklin's descendants still reside in this area.
Signed in the lower right corner. No notable flaws on the front watercolor or matting. There is a small tear on the back paper. Any spots you see on the glass or matting are reflections from the windows in the room. Re-framed at Wally World Gallery in Florida. (Additional pictures available upon request)
Measures: With Frame: 27" Wide x 36" High
Without Frame: 18 3/4" Wide x 27 3/4" High
