Some information provided by a nice eBuyer:
Thought you might like to know that this is an enlisted badge. Submarine officer badges have always been either gold-plated or gold-filled.Because it is an enlisted badge, it is not from the "1939-1945" era. Enlisted submariners wore a cloth patch on their uniforms between 1924 and 1950. Section 9-122 of the1947 U.S. Navy Uniform Regulations, and all previous uniform regulations, clearly state that "The enlisted insignia will be silk embroidered on cloth." The 9/21/1950 metal enlisted badge authorization was an interim change to the 1947 regulations. This enlisted badge is probably from the 1950-1959 era. -------- Thank you ftcm_ss
