Published at the start of the Mexican-American War in 1846, this stunning depiction of the United States of Mexico portrays the Nation in a period of significant transition. Texas had been annexed by the United States of America the year prior, and Mexico was struggling internally with disunity and a disorganized government. The treaty also protected residents' property rights in ceded territories. By the middle of the nineteenth century, Mexico had developed a rich culture with many regional distinctions that exist to this day.
