Item description
COHR Monica Spoon Ring
This unique ring was made from a vintage spoon created by Cohr Silver of Denmark. It features the Monica pattern and is hallmarked COHR Sterling. To ensure a comfortable fit, it has been soldered closed.
As a modern twist, giving flatware as a 5th wedding anniversary gift has become popular. This particular ring is not a reproduction, but an original piece. It is a size N in Australia (equivalent to a size 7 in the USA).
The tradition of crafting spoon rings originated in 17th century England, when solid silver flatware was highly coveted for its intricate designs and heirloom quality. It is said that servants, unable to afford traditional engagement rings, would steal a piece of flatware from their masters and transform it into a ring to propose to their beloved. These early spoon rings were symbolic of love and commitment, defying social and economic barriers.
