Item description
This is a 1949 Singer 128 with the crinkle-textured "Godzilla" finish and blackside components, a combination that's not commonly seen on post-war models. The motor sounds healthy when the pedal is pressed, but the belt is dry-rotted and has a knot in it, making it too loose to turn the machine properly. It will need a new belt and possibly some servicing to get it sewing smoothly again. (see video).
The wiring originally had some exposed areas, but this has been repaired. However, the cord is still dry and will need rewiring for safety. The light is working.
It comes in a classic bentwood case, which is a bit unusual for a 128 since most were in black rectangular travel cases, but it?s a great fit. The case is ever so slightly warped?not enough to be a major issue, as the machine still fits inside well. However, I do not have the key for the lock, so I haven?t been able to test the locking mechanism.
There is some damage under the motor area, as shown in the close-up photos. This doesn?t impact function but is worth noting for full transparency.
Overall, this is a fantastic and somewhat rare version of the Singer 128, with an unusual combination of features. Please examine all photos closely for exact condition details.
