Item description
dents and bend marks in middle of front cover and along edges. edge color faded. cover corner crease and minor page corner wear. no marks on pages.
Dick Arentz's photographs are striking in their seeing and mastery of photographic technique. The seeing is strongly individual and is suffused with confidence. Though Dick is of a later generation than the old masters, his work is in the classic tradition of photographic realism. His photographs do honor to the prime characteristics of the medium. They serve as a reminder of the beauty of black-and-white and its special attractions. Ian Thompson's text complements the photographs well, setting them in the context of the country portrayed, and synthesizing the region's history - the long geological perspective, followed by the story of the succession of people who came into the country.
