The cover presents eight arms chambered for it. Four prewar ones have Maynard tape primers: M1855 pistol carbine, M1855 two-band rifle and three-band rifle-musket, and the M1859 rifle-musket with patchbox. Below, discarding the Maynard device, are the U.S. M1861, Colt special model, U.S. M1863 with beveled hammer and round barrel bands, and the "C. S. Richmond" version with humpback lockplate.
