Issued in 2004 in limited edition of just 1,000 jugs each to mark the 200th anniversary of the Lewis Clark Expedition to explore the lands acquired by the 1803 Louisiana Purchase, which nearly doubled the size of the United States. On the bottom is the inscription: Specially commissioned from Royal Doulton by the American Toby Jug Museum to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of “The Voyage of Discovery” 1804-1806. Each jug is approximately 5" high. Each matched set is numbered up to 1000 and comes with the original matching Limited Edition Certificate. Hand made and hand decorated in England. The handle of the William Clark jug portrays Old Toby, the French-Canadian trapper who guided the expedition across the Rockies. The handle of the Meriwether Lewis jug portrays Sacagawea, carrying her newborn infant. She was the wife of Old Toby and served as translator with the Shoshoni-speaking tribes.
