This Prickly Pear can be seen in flower over a wide area in the state and provides much color. The flowers of the Saguaro (Caritegiea gigantea), Arizona's state flower, seem like little faces--symbolically the face of the desert. To the left is a fine specimen of the featured cactus of the arca--the Organ Pipe (Lemairocereus thurberi) with silvery looking Staghorn Cholla scattered among more Saguaros and Ocotillos over which the Ajo Mountains stand guard.
