Item description
JEPHTA AND HIS DAUGHTER
by Lion Feuchtwanger.
Translated from German to English by Eithne and Ernst Kaiser.
New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, (1958).
First edition in English, first printing.
Originally published in 1957 as JEFTA UND SEINE TOCHTER.
An historical novel featuring the Biblical Jephta the Gileadite, son of a harlot, referenced in Judges XI, I.
Feuchtwanger, a renowned historical novelist, was also the fiercely outspoken pre-war anti-Nazi writer, and German Jewish playwright and novelist, who escaped to asylum in the U.S. after internment in concentration camps.
A presentable, collectible first edition in the elusive dust jacket.
Lightly bumped to the upper rear shelf-edge, else very nearly fine in salmon linen over grey linen boards with gilt embossed titles to spine; in a very good dust jacket with a small chip to the upper spine edge, rubbed crimps to the lower spine edge, minor, faint soil spots to the rear panel, and light fading to the spine panel; original printed $3.95 price still intact to the front inner flap.
Octavo; 254 pages.
Please note* the dust jacket will be placed in a clear, removable, protective sleeve after scanning for this entry.
