Item description
This sixth plate double daguerreotype of an older married couple dates to the early 1800's. The couple is identified as Garrett Polhemus, born June 13, 1783 and his wife Winche (sic) Demarest Polhemus, born April 25, 1789.
Garret Polhemus was born in Orange County, NY and baptized on 22 June 1783 in the Clarkstown Dutch Church, Rockland County, NY. He was a descendent of the Rev. Johannes Theodorus Polhemius, who was a well-known pastor on Long Island, NY after immigrating from Germany.
Garret married Wyntje "Lavinia" Demarest, daughter of Phillipus Demarest and Maria Oblinus, on 14 April 1806 in Tappan Dutch Church, Rockland, NY. Wyntje was baptized on 10 May 1789 in Clarkstown Dutch Church, Rockland county. They had 9 children together.
Garret died on 15 February 1863 in Clarkstown, Rockland County, NY. Wyntje died in 1865.
The images measure 3.25" x 2.75" and the case is separated.
