Item description
Brand new factory sealed dvd of a gripping cult sci-fi / horror film. This Olive Film release has no frills and may not have a menu, it could be a pop-n-go. But it does have a licensed printsource from Paramount so it should look good.
Saul Bass, the graphic designer for many iconic movie posters and the animator for many opening credit sequences finally gets to direct his one and only movie with an eye for linear lines and geometric shapes making for a kind of hallucinatory experience.
This gripping film is part science fiction and part science fact and is one of the revenge-of-nature films of the '70s.
After a spectacular and mysterious cosmic event, differant species of ants all come together and become a hive mind in Arizona. They undergo a rapid evolution and build 7 complex ant towers in the desert for their super colony. They eliminate all their natural enemies such as spiders, praying mantis, etc. (shown in spectacular macrophotography). They can strip the flesh off animals (or humans) in seconds, hypnotize people and destroy computers or machines by chewing the wires.
In an effort to better understand the intelligent and powerful new life form two scientist and a girl seeking refuge take shelter in an experimental sealed dome nearby to study them. The scientists try communicating with the ants, when that fails they try chemical weapons to exterminate but the ants immunize themselves and march upon the dome...
