Hickory wood has sapwood white in color and heartwood with a brown or reddish-brown tint. Hickory is the heaviest, hardest, and strongest of all North American hardwoods. Hickory has a straight, fine grain that can be sanded to a good finish. Some common uses for Hickory lumber include cabinet making, furniture, flooring, tool handles, and sporting goods.
