Item description
THE GOLDEN HAWK
By Frank Yerby.
New York: The Dial Press, 1948.
First edition, first printing.
1948 date printed to the title page, and $3.00 to the jacket's flap.
Discreet rubber-stamped address to title-page and facing page, a touch of rubbing to the upper and lower spine edges and corner tips, else near fine, in oatmeal-colored linen-textured boards with blue titles to the front cover and to the spine, map-illustrated end-papers; in a very good plus dust jacket with swashbuckling art by by John Alan Maxwell, with some very short creased and nicked edge tears and a touch of fading to the spine panel; original printed $3.00 price still intact to the front inner flap.
The African-American author's third novel was adapted to the 1952 film starring Rhonda Fleming and Sterling Hayden.
Desperate to escape the harsh rule of European aristocrats whose voracious appetites for treasure outweighs all other considerations, Kit Gerado turns to piracy as his only means to power and love in the17th-century Caribbean sea.
The jacket will be placed in a quality Brodart brand, clear, removable protective sleeve, after photographing for this entry.
