Item description
Women Handmade Buckskin Native American Dress, Plains Indian White Colors with Bones style, with glass beads
Our Leather skin dresses are influenced by styles worn by women of Native American tribes of the Old West. When making dresses, they would add beautiful touches of beads work, painting and fringe. This particular design features large decorative glass beads and pipe bones across the bust. (NOTE: Tack belts sold separately.)
While most often ordered for weddings, these buckskin dresses are also beautifully suited for Pow-Wow events, historic reenactors, museums, SASS, theater performances, or simply for display as art in your home.
These dresses are made in the “Cowhide” or with one soft leather making the front, another for the back, and the third forming the other Genuine Leather and “sleeves” of the garment. Every Leather is unique and different, and will display natural imperfections such as scrapes, bug bites, small holes, etc. These are not considered to be flaws, but instead add to the authentic and historic look of the garment.
We make our dresses from the finest for strength, beauty and softness. All fringe is hand cut, and we only use glass beads, no plastic! Dresses can be worn belted or loose, and are typical of the design worn by Plains Indian tribes. Tack belts sold separately.
No zippers, buttons, or snaps were used on this style of dress in the Old West, and so in like fashion, ours are designed to slide over the head and be pulled down into position.
COLOR: Our naturally leather dresses are all handmade with the leather (rough) side out, and are available in White, Cream (Natural), Palomino, and Dusk. This dress is also now available in Cream. The photos show the dresses made in White (Natural).
NOTE: Colors and shading of individual leather skin, beads, pipe bones, and paint will vary depending on availability and dye lots. Size of beads may vary. Be AWARE the leather for this dress will contain natural markings.
NATURAL MARKINGS: Each leather has its own unique shading and imperfections in the hide, including natural “range” marks such as scarring and insect bites, which only add to the natural beauty and authentic look of the finished Native American-style garment. This unique aspect, combined with the fact each garment is made individually, ensures no two pieces are ever alike.
CARE: Mike suggests you allow your leather dress to develop its own natural “patina” with time. Obvious marks, dirt, or fingerprints can often be removed with the gentle scraping of a butter knife.
STORAGE: Do not store the dress in plastic. Hang from a padded hanger, or fold gently and store on a shelf, in a clean pillowcase if desired. Another option is to display the dress as art when not being worn, on a mannequin or hanging flat against a wall from a horizontal rod through the sleeves.
MEASUREMENTS:
Please provide the following measurements when ordering:
Bust
Hips
Height
Finished desired approximate length of back of dress, from prominent bone at back of neck to bottom of fringe (so we know how long to make the dress from top to bottom)
Please allow extra time for others color sheepskin dresses. Rush orders and special requests can be considered; please contact us with any questions.
