Item description
Wild Hawthorn {Crataegus monogyna} Organic | Ornamental Fruiting Shrub | Edible | Showy Blooms | 10 seeds Free Shipping!
Crataegus monogyna grow and care – tree of the genus Crataegus also known as Common hawthorn or Single seed hawthorn, Crataegus monogyna perennial deciduous plant, grow for the edible fruits, but also used as ornamental plant and can grow as bonsai, can grow in temperate, mediterranean, subtropical climate and growing in hardiness zone 4b-10a and with the right care in hardiness zone 10b.
Leaves color green lobed to deeply lobed with serrated edge.
Flower color is white in the inner part is yellow and the stamens are red,
the flowers grow on clusters.
Small to mid-sized deciduous thorny bush to small tree can be kept trimmed
to desired size and even does well as a hedgerow species. Hawthorn trees
are pretty dependably grown from seed but it takes patience. Seed sown in
the spring will germinate the following spring–sometimes exactly 365 days
from sowing! Seed sown in the fall usually germinates the following fall.
Seedlings are very tough and can persist in nature for years until they get
the chance to grow into trees. Work up the seedlings out in gallon pots for
a year or two before transplanting to landscape. Tree prefers full sun to part
shade and deep, moist to mesic soil of average fertility. No compost or
fertilizer is needed or recommended. Space trees 30 feet apart or if making
into a hedgerow plant 5 feet apart. A giving plant to bird and beast alike.
Tree has a beautiful fountaining habit, and the berries are really good to eat
fresh, dried, or in confections (but remove the seeds lest they in turn remove
a tooth).

3-10 m, 10-30 feet
Growth speed in optimal condition:
Medium growing
Water requirement:
Average amount of water / Big amount of water

Is it possible to grow indoor as houseplant?
No
Growing is also possible in a planter /flowerpot / containers:
Yes, in containers need to keep the plants small, start with pot that will be
20-50% more than the root ball, bigger the plant smaller the percentage, every
time that the tree arrive to full capacity need to switch to bigger until arrives
to desirable size, better to use this method because the soil lose the viability
over time and it’s efficient of care for the tree, when the plant big need to
switch part of the soil, drainage it’s important and need to make holes and to
use peat soil and maybe some lava grit in the bottom or something like that, put
a bottom for the container and when water the plant let it fill the bottom but
also need to dry in the same day
