Item description
Brand new factory sealed dvd is Out Of Print (OOP) in all formats and no longer being manufactured. Full frame and filmed in glorious Black White.
Partly based on Edgar Allen Poe's 'Black Cat' and using clips from 'Haxan'(1922) in superimposition to suggest madness, it has a truly awesome camp/movie-buff plot.
Horace Carpenter plays a mad doctor, a sibling Frankenstein who blackmails Bill Woods, formerly a vaudeville impersonator, into helping him aquire the corpse he needs to pursue his dream of bringing the dead back to life. He succeeds, but is accidently killed by Woods, who impersonates him in time to deal with a woman arriving for a consultation because her husband thinks he is the killer ape from Poe's 'Murders in the Rue Morgue'.
Taking a random stab at administering an injection, Woods sends the maddened husband screaming off to pursue and rape a young woman. Undeterred, he then decides to bring the dead Carpenter back to life to forestall possible charges of murder. Infuriated when interrupted by a black cat as he prepares to operate, he gouges out one of its eyes and hides Carpenter's body by walling it up in the cellar, only to be betrayed to the police (after other wild adventures) by the squeals of the cat bricked in with the body.
The film is very much a precursor of what was to come, exploiting some mild nudity and offering several gleeful examples of 'bad taste', notably when Woods eats the eye he has plucked from the black cat with ghoulish relish.
