Callaway GBB Warbird Ruger Titanium Ladies 12* Driver 3 Wood, Big Bertha Warbird 4 7 Woods SET
Rare - Callaway Great Big Bertha Warbird Ruger Titanium Women's 12* Driver 3 Wood 1995 - 1998
The Callaway Big Bertha Warbird driver uses the sole design of a utility club to help increase forgiveness. The internal weighting that the Warbird sole design allows, results in increased perimeter weighting to maximize Moment of Inertia. This high MOI keeps the club from twisting on impact to give you straighter, more accurate drives--even on those not-so-perfect shots.
Big Bertha War Bird features a titanium head and sets up very nicely at address
It is widely considered to be one of the most forgiving and best selling drivers of all time.
Let's stop and think about what makes today's drivers so good? they are forgiving, they are big, they hit the ball high, and they hit the ball far. How do these drivers today compare to the War Bird? The War Bird was forgiving thanks to extreme perimeter weighting. Callaway used internal weighting to move the majority of the weight to the outside. This also made the War Bird very stable on miss hits. The War Bird was considered big when it was first released? "big" being all of 195CC. Remember that most of the woods at that time were no bigger than half the size of your fist. It was hard to miss hit the War Bird! One of the big selling points of this club was the patented War Bird soleplate. Callaway was able to lower the center of gravity in the War Bird thus creating a high ball flight? something that was totally new to golfers at the time. I remember hitting the club and being just amazed at how high it hit the ball. Once the ball was in the air, it went really far too! I think this was a result of a few different technologies. The first being the aforementioned War Bird sole. I think we were all just starting to realize that a long ball had to be a high ball. The other technology helping with distance was the thin face. This technology was still quite new back then but the War Bird did have a pretty "hot" face. The shafts available in the Big Bertha War Bird were more than adequate for the average player and are actually similar to those used by Callaway today.
The Callaway Big Bertha War Bird was a great golf club. It combined unheard of forgiveness with long distance and customers loved it. Sure we may laugh at the technology used back then (and "back then" is really not that long ago) and wonder how we ever used it, but remember that most of the "technology" we rave of now is really just recycled ideas from clubs like the War Bird.
Callaway Big Bertha Warbird, 4 7 (Heaven Wood) Fairway Woods
The Callaway Big Bertha Warbird fairway woods use the sole design of a utility club to help increase forgiveness. The internal weighting that the Warbird sole design allows, results in increased perimeter weighting to maximize Moment of Inertia. This high MOI keeps the club from twisting on impact to give you straighter, more accurate drives--even on those not-so-perfect shots.
The Callaway Big Bertha Warbird fairway wood adds forgiveness with the now signature Warbird sole plate design was introduced in the 1980's. This design allows for more perimeter weighting for an increased Moment of Inertia, which means the club is more resistant to twisting when the ball is struck off-center. The weight configuration also reduces backspin to give "stronger" ball flight.
One of the most fondly remembered and spoken about fairway woods is the Callaway Warbird, an absolute revolution when it first came on the scene. The club, that debuted nearly 2 decades ago, remains to this day, Callaway?s biggest seller ever. It was well loved by amateur and professional golfers alike.
The key feature of this legendary club is the Warbird sole. This made it exceptionally good out of a poor lie, something most golfers had not experienced before. The compact, aerodynamic head was also groundbreaking on their early models.
Review: "This is not a grip it and rip it club. The drivers of today are spectacular with their 460cc heads and 275+ distances off the tee. For me however a 275 yard drive into the woods is not a good thing. I mean it is hard to brag about driving 25 to 30 yards past the competition when I have no second shot and they are in the fairway. So I have gone back to the war bird in an attempt to become more competitive. Taking this club to the range I found that I really do have to keep my head down through impact and stay focused on the ball. Who knew? I also found I can hit a draw, a fade and strait all about 240 to 250 yards. On the range. We all know that very little of what you do on the range follows you to the course. However if I can stay in the short grass twice as much as I have been over the past few years my newly developed scrambling skills should help me get a few more pars. I have zero expectations and high hopes.
2nd: I've had the Warbird 3, 5, and Heavenwood for too many years to remember now, all with the M10 steel Uniflex shafts. Occasionally I've put other fairway woods in my bag only to go back to these. They aren't flashy but they go where I want and always produce consistent trajectory. I read once that 99% of the technology in the golf equipment market exceeds 99% of the golfing public's ability to utilize that technology. I suppose that's why you still see these clubs in the bags of so many players. Best fairway woods ever made in my opinion."
