The story of Mulan is one of my favorites. I find her journey inspiring. For this piece, I wanted to show how she tried so hard to be everything for everyone - a perfect bride for her mother, a devoted son for her father, a skilled warrior for her Captain and ultimately a celebrated hero for her Country. Jerrod Maruyama is a freelance Illustrator and character designer. Born and raised in San Hose, Jerrod found his love for art at an early age. Continuing to find his passion, Jerrod graduated from San Jose University with a degree in Illustration and went to work in the Educational Software industry as an art director. Since then, Jerrod has worked as a freelance Illustrator with several notable companies including Disney Consumer Products, Mattel, Hostess and Macmillan, to name a few.
