The unverified memoir account of Slavomir Rawicz and six other Polish men who escaped in 1941 from a German prison camp, Gulag Siberia, and survived, traveling 4,000 miles through the Gobi Desert, Tibet, and the Himalayas before reaching British India in 1942. An inspiration for several films, and adapted from the book to the 2010 Peter Weir directed film starring Ed Harris, Jim Sturgess, and Colin Farrell.
