Item description
(#MA-53) You are bidding on a beautifully hand carved pendant made of natural white bovine bone in the Maori style (Hei-matau) fish hook; graceful flowing style, 1-7/8" long x 7/8" wide, skillfully wrapped, on a 28" natural tan color, braided cotton cord necklace with bone bead adjustable sliding knot to any length you need. Hook and necklace are woven together, not detachable.
This shape represents strength, prosperity, abundance and fertility. Wearing it is a sign of respect for the sea and its creatures, so it is also regarded as a good luck charm providing protection and safety while traveling over water.
It is also given as a mark of friendship and respect, for guy or gal to wear or give.
The Maori people of New Zealand are the oldest known culture renowned for these graceful designs.
