Item description
5.5" x 8.5", 192 page trade paperback titled THE SOLITARY OUTLAW by B.W. Powe/ Lester Orpen Dennys, ISBN # 0-88619-141-6, First Edition, copyright 1987/ B. W. Powe's landmark book The Solitary Outlaw is an unsettling exploration of the role of the intellectual in a post-literary age. Powe believes the literary I, exiled from the new electronic reality, can only be--and must become--a solitary outlaw. The Solitary Outlaw profiles five men--Pierre Trudeau, Wyndham Lewis, Glenn Gould, Elias Canetti, and Marshall McLuhan--all of whom felt "the power, passion, and accountability of the printed word".
Bruce William Powe (born March 23, 1955), commonly known as B. W. Powe, is a Canadian poet, novelist, essayist, philosopher, and teacher.
The book is complete and in VERY GOOD or better condition with some overall wear that includes a slight tilt to the spine. On the title page, the author has signed, "For Hugh Kenner, B.W. Powe. Toronto/87". Also included is a typed and signed letter to Hugh Kenner. William Hugh Kenner (January 7, 1923 ? November 24, 2003) was a Canadian literary scholar, critic and professor. He published widely on Modernist literature with particular emphasis on James Joyce, Ezra Pound, and Samuel Beckett. His major study of the period, The Pound Era, argued for Pound as the central figure of Modernism, and is considered one of the most important works on the topic. (see pictures)
