United States Air Force Hughes Achievement and 11 similar items

Vintage 16 mm color film on 7" reel, in metal canister. The handwritten title on the canister reads "Hughes Trophy (Outs)" and is on an official United State Air Force Aerospace Audio-Visual Service label. No audio strip. We examined the initial 25% of the film and were unable to ascertain a date or location although review of the remaining film may help make that determination. The leader strip reads, "23 TASS / NKP UNCLAS. Film length approximately 400 feet. Running time approximately 28-32 minutes. Condition: Film is in very good condition. No "vinegar syndrome" or odor detected. Comments: Recognized as the highest award given for the air defense the trophy became known as the highest Air Force award for air defense fighter achievement, the Hughes Achievement Award has been given to the Air Force's top Fighter-Interceptor Squadron since 1953. Popularly known by many as the Hughes Trophy, the awards once sponsored by the Hughes Aircraft Company, is now sponsored by the Raytheon Company after the company purchased Hughes Electronics in 1997. The Hughes Trophy is recognized as the top USAF award in air defense fighter achievement. The USAF determines the winner on the basis of accomplishment in such areas as missile qualifications, successful missions flown, aircraft operational readiness rates and flight safety.
