Item description
A WIND OF DEATH
by Gavin Black (Pen name of Oswald Wynd)
New York: Harper Row, Publishers, (1967).
First American edition, first printing.
"First edition" statement to the copyright page.
Jacket Art by Al Nagy.
The sixth, of thirteen, mysteries featuring Paul Harris is a suspenseful, intricately plotted murder mystery, set in and around an atmospheric and well-depicted jungle in the isthmus of Kra in southern Thailand.
In this outing, Harris has to deal with helicopters, fast cars, planes, Red Chinese military leaders, a CIA man, a junk fleet, and people who remember him from the war.
Wynd, born in Japan to Scottish parents, spent his childhood in Japan, and was a three year Scottish soldier prisoner of war in Japan during WWII, ending his desire to live in the Far East, that he knew so well.
His most famous novel, THE GINGER TREE, was adapted to a BBC mini-series, as well as a TV series.
ELUSIVE title.
Minor stains to outer upper page edges, faint stain to the upper edge of the rear cover, else very good in polished blue linen boards over smooth black boards with silver embossed titles to the spine, black patterned end-papers; in a near fine dust jacket with two tiny nicks to the upper spine edge; original printed $4.95 price and date code 0767 still intact to the front inner flap.
