Item description
MEI LING IN CHINA CITY
Written by Icy Smith
Illustrated by Gayle Garner Roski.
Manhattan Beach, California: East West Discovery Press, (2008).
First edition in English, first printing.
"First English edition 2008" statement to the copyright page.
SIGNED and dated 2008 with an encouraging comment by the author Icy Smith to the page facing the title page.
Laid in is a double-sided, glossy color illustrated author promo/information card, with information bout the real Mei Ling and the book to the front, and with a photo of the current Mei Ling Lee reunited with her Japanese friend, and information to the other side.
The true tale, written for children, of a Chinese girl living in the newly moved China Town in Los Angeles, who corresponds with her Japanese girlfriend who has been interned during the war.
A wonderful descriptive history of Mei Ling's and other Chinese lives in China town accompanies the story, which is followed by a twelve page afterword history enhanced with numerous rare photographs.
Fine in semi-glossy color illustrated boards with original $18.95 printed price to the rear cover, red map illustrated front end-papers; in a fine dust jacket that mimics the cover art; original printed $18.95 price still intact to the rear panel.
Square quarto.
