Assumed first edition.
Near very good condition. Dark blue
textured boards with 3/4 faux black leather, having stamped gilt titles
on front and spine with paste-on colored illustration having stamped
circumference decoration and some staining; significant proximity
condensation staining on front (less on back), corners have wear (more
in front). Endpapers are textured and decorated, front free endpaper has
piece of similarly decorated tape at top. Pages have whisper of
age-toning and some light foxing toward back but are reasonably tight
and otherwise intact, except half-title page has several small tears,
title page has small tears, chipping and large overlap fold, both
half-title and title pages have manufacturer's offset at bottom, and a
few small tears occasionally.
Size is 12-3/8" by 9-1/2". 64 pages.

book produced just after the Battle of Verdun, one of the major battles
in France during World War I that was fought during most of 1916 near
the city of Verdun-sur-Meuse in northeastern France. There were nearly a
million casualties on both the French and German sides during the
intense trench warfare.
This book has 78 colored photographic
illustrations from contemporary sources and accompanying text in French.
A scarce chronicle of the aftermath of the "War to End All Wars".
