Item description
CREEPING JENNY:
And Other New England Stories
by Kate Douglas Wiggin
Illustrated by Helen Mason Grose
Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1924.
First edition, first printing.
Charming color frontispiece by Helen Mason Grose.
A collection of four longer stories with home-spun themes.
These tales, set in Maine, were published posthumously, for the first time in book form, and were selected from previous magazine appearances.
Wiggin's home in Hollis, Maine is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places and was the inspiration and setting for several of her stories (especially these tales), novels and plays.
Wiggin is most remembered for her numerous children's books, including REBECCA OF SUNNYBROOK FARM, though she was also an acclaimed author of adult fiction, and was a respected singer and musician as well.
Spine ends and corner tips lightly rubbed, else near fine in green linen with deep-green decorations and titles embossed to the front cover and to the spine; lacking a dust jacket.
A lovely vintage collectible.
Octavo; 164 pages.
