Lucas was such a prolific writer in all genres and subjects that Beerbohm claimed he wrote more words than he spoke. Frank Swinnerton stated that Lucas read a character with wisdom and gravely turned it to fun. These stories have believable and well-developed characters and the tales have a twist of wit and whimsy. Embossed multi-colored illustration with gilt titles to the front cover and to the spine, top pages edges gilt, minor rubbing to covers, front inner hinge cracked but still holding well, very light internal foxing, else very good.
