Item description
WALK A MILE AND GET NOWHERE
by Ivan Southall
Englewood Cliffs, N.J.: Bradbury Press, (1970).
First American edition, first printing.
Dust jacket illustration by James Barkley.
The Carnegie Medal Award-winning author of over 30 young adult and six adult novels also is renowned for his non-fiction books on World War Two.
Southall joined the British Royal Air Force and was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross for his role in sinking a German U-boat in 1944. After returning to Australia with his British bride, he became an author.
The author's lively and believable action sequences give his young adult novels timeless appeal. This juvenile is set in Deakin Beach, Australia, features a thirteen year old boy and involves a missing girl.
The Australian settings in Southall's books are rich and intriguing described.
Fine in brick-red linen with white titles to the front cover and to the spine; in a near fine lightly soiled dust jacket with slight wear to the upper and lower spine edges; original $4.50 price still intact to the front inner flap.
A rather elusive young adult novel, especially in such fresh condition.
Lovely Gift.
Octavo; 118 pages.
