Transcript of an address by 27th U.S. President William Howard Taft (1857-1930) to the Joint Session of the 47th General Assembly of Illinois on February 11, 1911. In it, his main focus was a proposed tariff treaty with Canada, which unfortunately the Canadian legislature failed to approve. This large pamphlet has two contemporary photographs glued-in: one of Taft and his entourage at an outdoor speaking engagement, on the front cover verso vertically; and the other of him riding in the presidential limousine labeled "President Taft at Coliseum Chicago, Ill." below it in pencil on verso of title page. Size is 9-1/8" by 5-7/8". 10 pages. Near-fine condition: light khaki wraps with black titles on front; very light wear on corners and whisper of discoloration near edges. Pages lightly age-toned; but clean and some slight wrinkles. A nice antique historical item for a presidential aficionado.
