Item description
Pressman made a number of these metal baseball games and I believe this one was made before they were using baseball players' names in association with the game. I believe it was issued in 1959. It is metal with a wooden border or frame around it. There is a wooden bat that is spring loaded to hit the ball. I suppose the pitch could be hit as hard or softly as permitted by the pressure applied to the bat, also the same would apply for where the ball (marble) would land. There are depressions for the landing location of the ball. The pitcher is a metal piece that sits above the metal field and the ball (marble) is held against the metal piece and after some pressure is applied it is released which "pitches" the ball to the bat. We don't have the original marble or ball that came with the game. Also for scoring there were "pegs" that were issued with the game to slip into the holes on the lower right to keep score. We don't have any of the pegs. The directions for playing the game are on the lower left of the field. In my opinion the important working parts of the game are there although incomplete since we do not have the balls or the pegs. The wooden frame is in good condition and may be oak. The game was played with and it has a number of scratches and it has a ding in the base paths between first and second base. The frame has a a ding and 2 scratches, although small at the top near the center. The wooden frame is smooth--not fine furniture smooth--and is assembled with a nail at each corner. It measures about 15 inches x 20 inches. We must collect 6% Pennsylvania Sales and Use Tax at checkout. Thanks for stopping by!
