Variety Seeds Canary Melon Cucumis melon Non-GMO
The Canary melon (Cucumis melo, Inodorus group), also known as the winter melon, is a distinctive fruit recognized by its large, elongated shape and bright yellow rind. Inside, it reveals a pale green to white flesh that offers a soft, pear-like texture. The melonโs flavor is notably sweet with a hint of tanginess that differentiates it from the more familiar honeydew. When fully ripe, the rind of the Canary melon develops a slightly waxy texture.
Named for its vivid yellow color, which resembles that of a canary bird, this melon is frequently marketed as the Juan Canary melon. It comes in various sizes and shapes, adding to its versatility in culinary uses. The Canary melon is popular in several parts of Asia, including Japan and South Korea, as well as in Algeria and Morocco. In Mexico, you may encounter a smaller, round variety known as the Fonzy melon.
To maintain its optimal flavor and texture, the Canary melon should be stored at approximately 15C (59F).
