He has authored several hundred scholarly articles, and has written or contributed to numerous volumes dealing with the history and archaelogy of the Ancient Near East. His Ph.D. was received in Mediterranean Studies for Brandeis University. His specialty is Pre-Christian Gnosticism. The lecture on this tape, "Easter: Hallucination, or History?" has been presented in many universities, including Yale and Princeton, where his presentation was co-sponsored by the Christian faculty and the Center for University Ministries of Trinity College.
