Storyboard Painting from What Price Glory Stage version, 1949 A gorgeous watercolor storyboard painting for the stage remake of What Price Glory in 1949. The play was produced by John Ford (who later directed the film version in 1952) and the Masquers Club of Hollywood, and served as a charity benefit for the Military Order of the Purple Heart. There were one-night performances in Los Angeles, Long Beach, San Jose, Oakland, San Francisco and Pasadena from February 22 through March 2. The actors (who accepted no salary) were from Ford's old stock company and a virtual who's who of the acting elite at the time: John Wayne, Gregory Peck, Maureen O'Hara, Ward Bond, Pat O'Brien, Oliver Hardy and Forrest Tucker, among others. The run generated $30,000 to build a clubhouse for paraplegic veterans. The painting is off-center matted in the frame. At the lower right corner of the matte is written: ACT I SCENE I "WHAT PRICE GLORY" PROD. by JOHN FORD. Unfortunately, nothing is known of Rich Yeltenti, the obviously talented artist who painted this in 1949. There are a few scratches on the frame, commensurate with a vintage item.
