Item description

The fiddle has been popular in Scotland for over 500 years as an accompanying instrument for dance and song. Bonnie Rideout has been playing traditional Scottish fiddle music since the 1980s. This collection presents favorite tunes which Bonnie had stashed away over the years while awaiting the perfect opportunity to record them. The music written here ranges from J. Scott Skinner's Dr. Gordon Stable (a wonderful fiery reel she once played to garner her first national fiddling title as a young teenager), to Fear A Bhata (a heartbreaking air she has known as long as she can remember). These Scottish fiddle selections have been carefully transcribed from Bonnie's recording Scottish Fire. It would be impossible to write down all her bowings and every grace note, especially since they are not always consistent from one playing to the next. Readers should use this book as a basis for exploring their own voice within the music. 56 pp. Sugg retail price $14.95 Songs are: Brose and Butter arr. by Bonnie Rideout Cuzle Together arr. by Bonnie Rideout Dr. Gordon Stables' Reel arr. by Bonnie Rideout Drinan Jig Bonnie Rideout Dunkeld House arr. by Bonnie Rideout Elsie Marly arr. by Bonnie Rideout Fishing off Eilean Na H'airde Bonnie Rideout Grace Hay's Delight arr. by Bonnie Rideout Grant's Rant arr. by Bonnie Rideout Innes of Sandsides' arr. by Bonnie Rideout Kelo House arr. by Bonnie Rideout Loch Ness arr. by Bonnie Rideout Lude's Lament arr. by Bonnie Rideout Miss Clementina Stewart arr. by Bonnie Rideout Miss Shepherd arr. by Bonnie Rideout Mrs. McGee's Reel arr. by Bonnie Rideout O My Boatman arr. by Bonnie Rideout OH ONOCIE O arr. by Bonnie Rideout Over the Isles to America arr. by Bonnie Rideout Pop Goes the Weasel arr. by Bonnie Rideout Purser's Air Bonnie Rideout Rossie Castle arr. by Bonnie Rideout Stuart's Rant arr. by Bonnie Rideout The 156th Brigade at the Battle of Romani arr. by Bonnie Rideout The Brown-Haired Daughter (NIGHEAN DONN) arr. by Bonnie Rideout The Brown-Haired Lad arr. by Bonnie Rideout The Champion of the Seas arr. by Bonnie Rideout The Gentle Milkmaid (MO CHUACHAG LADHACH) arr. by Bonnie Rideout The Highlands of Scotland arr. by Bonnie Rideout The Lonach Highland Fling arr. by Bonnie Rideout The Lowlands of Scotland arr. by Bonnie Rideout Tibby Fouller O' the Glen arr. by Bonnie Rideout What the Devil Ails You arr. by Bonnie Rideout
