About The Record:
Playin' to Win, by southern rock band Outlaws, marked their first project with guitarist/singer/songwriter Freddie Salem replacing Henry Paul. Produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange, the album adopted a slicker, more pop-oriented sound compared to the band?s earlier raw southern rock style, which led to mixed reception as it diverged from their country-infused roots. Despite not matching the acclaim of their previous albums, it reached No. 60 on the Billboard 200, reflecting moderate commercial success. The track Take It Any Way You Want It stood out as a notable single. Historically, the album is significant as one of Lange?s early production efforts, showcasing his ability to polish southern rock for broader appeal before his later work with global acts like Def Leppard and AC/DC.
