Watch Background: Longines Innovation In the 1970s, Longines was a pioneer of Swiss watchmaking — much like Audi was to German cars during the same era. The company introduced the groundbreaking 431 high-beat movement at 36,000 beats per hour (10 beats/sec), combining cutting-edge precision with durability. Later, Longines released a lower beat-rate version of the Ultra-Chron line — the 6651/6652 movements, beating at 28,800 bph (8 beats/sec). Aside from the balance and gear train differences, the architecture remained virtually the same. Interestingly, these reduced-rate Ultra-Chrons are rarer than their high-beat counterparts. ?
