Item description

This is a very rare salesman's sample book for advertising. It consists of 42 loose paper card sheets each measuring 9 3/4"x7 5/8". Each has several lithographic examples of ads and general drawings of designs and figures. Several of the sheets have some pieces of card missing from the edges. They are contained in a folded sleeve with partial cloth covering that has been repaired with tape in several places. This cover also has soiling and edge bumps. The cover card is printed "DOCUMENTS LITHOGRAPHIQUES. III Series. 51 Plates." Then there is a blank space with a stamped name and address which reads "G. A. Fenney, 212 Union Street, Care of Hawes Eng. Co., Providence, R.I. (this stamp is also on the slip sleeve)" Then printed below that is "H. C. Perleberg, Publ., 376 Central Ave., Jersey City, New Jersey." Some artist names found are "Bernhard," "Joe Loe," "Gipkens" and "Louis Oppenheim." But by far most of the signed or stamped signatures are by "Ludwig Hohlwein, Munchen."
